n. [Gr. meta, after; plax, plate]
(MOLLUSCA: Bivalvia)
A long narrow posteriorly pointed, rounded or forked accessory plate covering the gape between the two valves on the dorsal margins posterior to the umbo; see protoplax, mesoplax.
